Sigma 30mm 1.4 micro four thirds12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() The 'entrance pupil size determines everything' brigade might disagree. The PL 25 may be smaller, but it must be a 'compromised design.' They're in a different league altogether. 'A little longer and fatter' seems a bit of an understatement. Sigma's 60mm is almost exactly the same size as the PL25, in the middle of the comparison picture above. Its not that much bigger than Sigma`s 60mm, just a little longer and fatter, its still a pretty small lens. But it has to deliver, if it's not better then the leica than yeah, I don't understand why it's bigger. Like I said, I am not bothered by extra size and weight of the sigma. I have a Nikon 105 macro lens, it's not small but the output it solid. I want great iq and am willing to invest in some bigger lenses to accomplish that. Sigma also has a 30 1.4 for slrs but it's not great. I expect the 30 1.4 to be very sharp, even wide open. The 25 f1.4 is a good performer, but its also one of the few 1.4 lenses, faster than most. ![]() Do you expect the Sigma to be that much better to justify it being "just a little bigger"? I don't own the PL25mm, but from all the reviews and user opnions I never got the impression it is a compromise design. But there are few that are "no compromise" designs. The better the the lens the bigger they get, m43 has lots of compromise design lenses. Just a little bigger than the others.Ģ.Choice is great, if u don't want to buy the 30 f1.4 but something smaller, than don't complain.ģ. I read somewhere that the secondary lens sales rate - what the trade calls the "attach rate" - for m4/3 is something like three times that of dSLRs. ![]() Even if this lens does not meet your needs (and it doesn't meet mine), having more vendors in the m4/3 market is a good thing and we all should hope that they have good sales to encourage more offerings. I am a happy owner of all three Sigma f2.8 primes, all of which share the same oversized design characteristics. Here is a comparison of Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 vs Olympus 25mm f/1.8, vs Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DNĪs Dennis said, Sigma is a small company and designs lenses for multiple mounts the APSC image circle is almost 40% larger diameter than m4/3 so optics designed for the former are well oversized for the latter. " Horribly Huge" is an exaggeration, but after being spoiled by M43 tiny prime (switch from canon), I have lost my appetite for "Normal Size" lens. ![]()
